Welcome to LSSC Coaching Curriculum

Byte Size Coaching can give coaches the tools they need to succeed.

These Practice Plans have been built for both beginner and seasoned coaches. If this is your first year coaching and you are not quite sure what to do then you can follow the plan and they will guarantee that the players (and you) will have fun while developing the skills of the game.

For the more experienced coaches don’t be afraid of inserting your own ideas to make the activities more fun, more difficult, or simpler depending on the progress of your players. Use your imagination, be creative and design your own practice using these plans as a foundation.

Later you may want to modify an exercise you’re repeating so it gives it a new dimension. This will keep things fresh for you and your players.

Feel free to explore practice plans of older and younger age groups to build your base of ideas. Even professional teams still perform some of the games in the U7 plans because they are simple and provide a change of pace from the more complicated activities and this keeps the training environment in a state of constant change, which in turn keeps players tuned in.

You will notice that the practice plans are game-based. In other words, having a target and a challenge to the activity makes it more fun and motivates the players.

Try to avoid any drills/exercises that keep players in lines waiting for their turn. If you have an assistant coach or two, get a couple of practice areas going at the same time. Try to make sure you use every minute of your practice time to the maximum.

These plans cover all aspects of the fundamentals of the game. They will also provide you with a base of ideas to work from when later you feel that you should plan a practice that is very specific to the needs of your team – from observations of the players, both in practice and in games.

What will likely happen is that as a coach becomes more experienced the program will help stimulate the development of the coach’s own ideas and training methods and then the Byte Size Coaching program becomes more of a reference tool and a resource library. We have also added over 200 single pages of soccer activities that will provide fun for the whole family around the kitchen table or in the backyard with a soccer ball.

Hope you enjoy coaching the children and please let me know of any suggestions for improvements to the program you would like to see.

Thank you,
