Welcome to the Saskatchewan Coaching Curriculum

Byte Size Coaching can give coaches the tools they need to succeed.
The Saskatchewan Soccer Association (Sask Soccer), in partnership with World of Soccer, is pleased to be able to provide the Byte Size Coaching Curriculum as a resource for all certified coaches providing soccer instruction to registered players at the community association, club and district levels within our Province.
By committing to the implementation of the Canadian Soccer Association’s Long Term Player Development Model, “Wellness to World Cup”, Sask Soccer shares the following LTPD goals:
-
Promote lifelong enjoyment of physical activity
-
Provide a structured player development pathway
-
Describe best practices for elite player development
-
Create long-term excellence
The Byte Size Coaching Curriculum is an age-specific, developmentally appropriate set of training plans designed by Tony Waiters, that is LTPD compliant, easy to understand and instruct, and most importantly fun!
Tony Waiters is a former Canadian Men’s National Team Head Coach, having led Canada to its only appearance in the FIFA World Cup in 1986, as well as, the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games in 1984. In addition to his highly successful international coaching career, Tony is also a member of the Canadian Soccer Association’s Long Term Player Development Working Group and has been involved in the development of the “Wellness to World Cup” document from its inception.

While the Byte Size Coaching Curriculum is an excellent resource for both novice and experienced coaches in planning their training sessions, it is not meant to replace Coaching Certification, but rather to complement it. The Coach Certification Pathway educates prospective coaches on the role of the coach, safety, injuries and liability, ethical decision making and fair play, in addition to preparing them to plan and conduct training sessions. Every player deserves a certified coach!
